Invitation to Hua Ming's new centre and interaction session

About The Society
Persatuan Penjagaan Dan Latihan Kanak-Kanak Autistik Hua Ming Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur Dan Selangor which is commonly known as Hua Ming Autism Society or Hua Ming in short, was established in 1996 by a group of parents of children with autism.

Hua Ming¨s main objectives, amongst others, are to provide education and training to children with autism and counseling to their parents. It currently runs an activity centre in a rented premise at Subang Jaya to conduct training programmes, seminars, workshops and related activities for children with autism and their parents.

Being a non-profit organisation, Hua Ming depends on public donations to run its activities and every year it has to organise fund-raising events to meet its operating expenses.

In its teaching, training and treatment of children with autism, Hua Ming adopts the TEACCH programme (Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communication Handicapped Children) and ABA programme (Applied Behaviour Analysis) developed in the U.S.A.

The primary goal of these programmes is to help to prepare people with autism to live and work more effectively at home, at school and in the community. Special emphasis is placed on helping people with autism and their families to live together more effectively by reducing or removing autistic behaviours. Parents are trained to work with their children to mange behaviour problems and improve learning, social and language skills.

In near future, Hua Ming aims to promote public awareness and concern of autism by playing a proactive role in educating the public hoping that they will have better understanding and acceptance of people with autism. Hua Ming also plans to set up an Academy of Autism to train and develop more teachers and trainers in the field of autism.

Moving To New Premises
On September 2009, Hua Ming bought a two storey shop lot in Old Klang Road, Petaling Jaya at the price of RM435,000. At the same time, Hua Ming rented a shop lot next to it and using both shops as the new centre for the society. Hua Ming plan to move into the new premises by January 2010 and hence to provide more services. Hua Ming plans to expand its services to other races and to different age group. Here are some services and facilities that we will provide:

  • preschool class (for the age of 2-6)
  • primary class (for the age of 7-12)
  • secondary class (for the age of 13-15)
  • English class (for children grown up in English speaking family)
  • conference room (for teachers to have meetings with college students and other professionals)
  • sensory integration room (equipped with different sensory integration )
  • books and toys library (parents able to borrow books and toys and bring home to teach their children)
  • multi-purpose hall (hall for all kinds of activities and talks / seminars for parents and teachers)

Hua Ming needs another RM120,000 to renovate the new premises and to buy new teaching materials and Sensory Integration equipment. Besides that, Hua Ming wishes to have more funds so that more teachers and professional therapists are employed to increase the quality of services. Therefore we urgently need to raise funds to achieve the above goals.
